I had a dream thought!

“I had a dream thought, that I wanted to communicate with a prolific female Canadian author. “

I wanted to make a dream come true. I wanted to project my “Fantasy” onto what I believe is mankind’s united dormant consciousness. It presents itself as one thing (like a dream or manifested dream material) and it’s called the Internet. I had a longing to be heard. Freud, I am sure could find the meaning behind my desire and attribute it to a castration complex. This is a Latent Dream though I attempted to embed onto the Internet in an (reversal of Freud’s way) accurate placement manner. Displacement is the way Freud finds his way around the endless possible position the unconscious mind might take on the placement of an object (of any sort) in a dream. Placement is the use of energy from an outside force on to the Internet to create the desired effect, to fulfill ones fantasies, or more appropriately to enjoy life through the fulfillment of ones goals, through play.
Achievement of my goal, of having a top Canadian female author respond to a placement of a Dream thought moves us into the realm of the uncanny. Knowing my prediction was going to come true as long as I obeyed the rules of direct placement produced a level of awe in others around me. The moment the Dream thought became reality the critical connection to many of my colleagues was multiplied to create a bond strong enough to yield an emotional event all of us close enough to have known the actual Dream thought to feel the uncanny together as one.

“Unheimlich”

In a way Freud defines the “Latent dream thoughts” as a precursor to the “Manifested content material” in the dream. Freud says that the “task” of the dream interpreter is
Investigating the relations between the manifest content of dreams and the latent dream-thoughts, and of tracing out the processes by which the latter have been changed into the former.”(501)
That seems to imply that the meaning of the dream is floating around as something of an entity of its own: the manifested dream content is just the language of the dreamers unconscious. The Latent Dream thoughts are an a priori view of the inside of the dreamers psyche. The manifested Dream material is just the language that we use to read out the same old story, according to Freud. This leaves us with the impression that we can manipulate reality by infusing the Latent dream thoughts into a Manifested dream material directly before the author of the dream, dreams, we can predict the future.

Manifested Content of Dream Material

A story is a large source of Manifested content of dream material. The Manifested content is the stuff the writer puts down on the page. It’s a very pristine look at a Polaroid of the writers mind, the unconscious. There is a relationship to everything there in that Polaroid, it’s a glimpse into all our reality, yet it has a meaning specific to the person presenting us the picture, the author. The meaning is the writers repressed fantasy revealing itself. The quality of the writing is based on how well it reveals the reader’s tension toward the onslaught of his or her own repressed fantasies. A good writer will fulfill the readers desire to act out his or her own repressed fantasy by allowing him or her to accept themselves more openly through the ingestion of manifested dream content produced by the author.
While creating fiction the author is in an undeniable realm of fantasy, and is able to establish a thread of uncanny parameters without the hardship found in the real world. Freud gives us examples of what is made possible through fiction when he says
The somewhat paradoxical result is that in the fist place a great deal that is not uncanny in fiction would be so if it happened in real life; and in the second place that there are many more means of creating uncanny effects in fiction than there are in real life. (531)
When a person writes fiction they are introducing us to their psyche, our minds are filled with illusions and fantasies that are not to be exposed without a filter to the communal understanding or our society. Stories are a way for an author to reflect upon society without outright mentioning fantasies that may be recognized by others as taboo.

Turning Dreams into reality!

Latent dream thoughts are used to map out the reasoning behind manifested content of dream material. Manifested dream material is a very condensed, layered source of information, crushed into a relatively simple form. Displacement occurs through the searching through and evaluating of the manifested dream material, and produces a channel of consciousness that begins the un-censored process of defining the Latent dream thought for what it is, a look into the mind of a neurotic person.
